Brian bender

Brian Bender is a Producer, Mixer, Composer and Sound Designer with 15 years of experience across almost every segment of music and audio production. 

Born and raised in the fertile Jazz and DIY rock scene in Bloomington, Indiana, Bender made his way to New York directly after earning a Bachelor of Science in Audio Technology from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. His first job in New York was working for legendary minimalist composer Philip Glass at Looking Glass Studios. After several years working in multiple departments in Mr. Glass’ enterprises, Bender moved to Electric Lady Studios, where he was the staff assistant to Russell Elevado. After his tenure there, Bender struck out freelance and founded The Motherbrain, his recording studio and creative home base.  Music clients include Blue Note, 4AD/Beggars Group, RVNG Intl., Universal Music Group, Ropeadope, Geffen, Caroline Records, Concord, and Because Music. In 2018, Bender was nominated for two Grammy awards for his contribution to Nate Smith’s album ‘Nate Smith + Kinfolk - Postcards From Everywhere’.

After 10 years in Brooklyn, Bender moved The Motherbrain to Los Angeles and has now undertaken a host of work in Film and Television as composer and sound designer. Film and TV clients include Netflix, Showtime, Starz, Tim Burton Productions, Magnolia Pictures, Univision, Gary Sanchez, and Remote Control Productions. In 2017, Bender was nominated for an Academy Award for his contribution to the short film ‘Extremis’ and in 2018, Bender was nominated for two Film Independent Spirit Awards for his contribution to ‘Oh, Lucy!’ 

Bender continues to seek to broaden the scope of his engagement with new challenges in new idioms whenever the opportunity presents itself.
