José James releases "Bag Lady (feat Diana Dzhabbar)

"This is what jazz sounds like in 2023," proudly claims the jazz singer for the hip-hop generation. José James' head nod take on an absolute Erykah Badu classic does not disappoint. James also takes this opportunity to introduce landmark artist Diana Dzhabbar. Rising star alto saxophonist/flautist and beat maker Dzhabbar was one of James' star students in Amsterdam during his tenure as artist in residence at the CvA.

Celebrated jazz singer of the hip-hop generation José James returns with a blazing Alice Coltrane meets J Dilla version of Erykah Badu’s classic hip-hop anthem The Healer. Featuring a star band of BIGYUKI on keys, Ben Williams on bass, Jharis Yokley on drums and introducing rising star 18-year-old Ebban Dorsey on sax, James stays deep in the head-nod intensity of the original while taking the art form to the furthest reaches of Black cosmic jazz.
